Accessible Home Design
Occupational Therapy brings a functional, real-life perspective to home design.
Instead of focusing only on measurements or building standards, consultations assess how you perform daily activities within your home, including:
Transfers
Reaching and accessing items
Navigating spaces
Meal preparation
Safe bathroom use
Daily activities and routines
Accessible Home Design Consultation
Accessible or “universal” design standards can be helpful, but they often assume the same layout works for everyone. In reality, accessibility needs vary depending on how a person moves and functions in their daily life.
For example, a kitchen designed for someone using a manual wheelchair will look very different from one designed for someone using a power wheelchair, where seat height, reach, and turning radius differ.
Bathroom layouts, shower designs, and transfer spaces must also be tailored to how an individual moves, transfers, and accesses their home.
